Single Parent - Tips for Single Parents

By John Burkett

A working single parent faces many challenges. Since they can divide the job and duties of parenting, couples who are married generally have an easier situation than single parents. The single parent, on the other hand, must face their challenges alone. Even though most single parents are mothers of young children, many single fathers are raising their children alone. Quite often, this mother has very little formal education and may even lack a high school diploma.

As a single parent, you may face a lot of ups and downs in your efforts to tackle the difficult task of providing your family a secure home with a congenial environment. Although it's not simple it is possible. Acomplishing this task will be very difficult, but in the end your children's well-being is at stake. What ever you have to do for your children's sake, it will be worth it.

It's vital to remember that children are not adults. They are not pressed down with the same issues that grown people think are important and they don't understand everything from a grown person view. A feast in a well-known five-star restaurant and a leisurely hours during night for an adult is alike a bowl of popcorn, a carafe of Kool-Aid and an electrifying pastime of old maid for a kid. Instead of the child watching a television show or movie, reading a story or singing a song is a much better idea.

The daily attention and care of their caregivers is vital to children. No matter how busy or stressed parents are--even single parents--they must set aside time each day to focus on their children's needs. A predictable and supportive home life infuses a child with the confidence for successful participation out in the world.

If you are a single parent you may feel overwhelmed with the amount of work you have to do. It is hard enough when there are two of you, it twice as hard when you are solo. Don't forget that one of the most important parts of being a parent is showing your kids love. And since there is only one of you, you should try to show double the affection and care. - 30443
