Your Mother Was Serious About Clean Underwear

By Dorthy Weatherbush

It is almost certain that as a kid growing up, you heard your mother tell you time after time to wear some clean underwear. The older you got, the more she reminded you; of course, in the event of an accident, she didn't want you to be caught dead in dirty underwear. Many people can thank their mothers for their clean underwear.

Your mother may have sounded crazy then, but there are other reasons why wearing clean underwear is so very important. But first, let's get a good definition of what underwear is.

Socks, bras, undershirts, boxers, briefs, panties, and underwear, are all included in the definition of underwear. It can be stated that the majority of people wear clean underwear every day usually to maintain good personal hygiene. But what is meant by good personal hygiene and how does underwear effect good hygiene?

There has recently been much debate as to whether or not wearing thongs is a good choice for maintaining personal hygiene. Many believe that because of its form, function, and fit on the body, it is less sanitary than more traditional panties. Others believe that as long as you're habits are sanitary, then wearing a thong is sanitary. For example, a person who bathes regularly, and uses the restroom appropriately, would have no problems with wearing a thong.

So now that we have a clear definition of underwear and have discussed some of the controversy surrounding it, now the ultimate questions: what is the reasoning for wearing clean underwear? First and foremost, underwear carry our personal and natural body odors with them. So if you want to smell good and fresh every day, you need to wear clean underwear.

Human beings have various secretions concerning our bodies, the largest part is of course our sweat, which is what happens when it is very hot, or we exert ourselves. We sweat to keep us cool, but human sweat does create odor.

In addition to sweat, our bodies also release natural oils. The amount of oils we secrete at any point in time depends on the person, the time of the year, the time of the month, the kind of activities done in a day, and many other factors. Nonetheless, washing and cleaning your underwear after you wear it ensures that its germ free, bacteria free, and pleasant smelling the next time that you wear it.

The most important issue with not wearing clean underwear is that no matter how clean you are, you are going to end up with fecal matter in your underwear. The only way to completely get rid of it is to wash it or to bathe after every time you use the restroom. Most people can't do this so they change their underwear every day.

Take a walk down memory lane and recall the smell of the locker room after gym class. Recall the smell of old gym clothes smelling away in your old locker. This should be reason enough to wear clean underwear. Clean socks are just as important because the same rules apply to them. So listen to your mother and grandmother and wear clean underwear: it could save your life! - 30443
