Christmas Presents For Children - That Aren't Toys!

By Michael Tan

December 25th is possibly one of the happiest days of the year for most kids. In addition to being out-of-school for Christmas break, they are expecting numerous gifts from virtually everyone they know. Even more than their birthdays, children look forward to the Christmas season with great anticipation.

It can sometimes become a cliche to give children toys every year, with all of the toys they'll already be receiving from everyone. Of course, most kids will be expecting toys for Christmas presents, so it's not easy to figure out a gift that's not a toy that will still meet their high expectations.

Here a number of truly great non-toy gifts listed below that most kids would appreciate.

1. Educational programs for their computer

This is one avenue where they can have fun while learning. What is more, they will be able to hone their skills on the keyboard and in manipulating the various commands in the computer. There are actually a lot of titles to choose from. There are Disney games that are really educational. Puzzle games such as Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy are also great in developing the vocabulary and the knowledge in current events.

Another popular series of games among children is the 'Carmen Sandiego' series. These use current events and detective work alongside word and math games to solve crimes. They're a great addition to any video game collection.

2. Craft packs

Another non-toy present that kids enjoy are craft supplies, which can usually be found in toy shops and at craft and art supply stores. These let children express their creative and artistic impulses, and they can spend their time learning valuable skills and making neat things.

There are different kinds of crafts to choose from. Just make sure that the craft that you have chosen is appropriate to the age of the kid. Remember that some craft activities require them to make use of sharp objects so be very careful in giving them gifts that may potentially be dangerous for them.

3. Visit a museum or take a trip to the zoo

One way to ensure fun and learning without giving them another toy is to give them a day in a favorite place where they can have fun. A trip to the zoo or to the Science Centrum is a great Christmas gift for a kid.

Be sure to take their interests into consideration to ensure a good time. You can take them to a NASA museum if the child is interested in science, or if they are into the Arts, you can accompany them to a local art gallery. - 30443
