A New Parent's Guide To Shopping For Infant Clothes

By Tomomi Utada

The newborn baby clothes department is where most parents end up splashing most of their cash. Can you blame them? Baby clothes are just incredibly cute and irresistible and who doesn't want the best for their infant? For some working families, it can be quite expensive to raise a baby as the little one just requires so many things. Being economical about the way we purchase baby clothing is usually the first step in saving money or using the extra funds for other things that the baby really needs (medical checkups are a good example). Since babies grow at such an incredible rate, it is futile to pay for really fancy or branded clothes. For starters, just buy something that's soft, comfortable and cheap.

Another thing you can do is not go out and buy too many outfits in one go. Parents tend to go crazy when their newborn is first conceived and they burn up their credit cards only to realize that one month later there's a big sale for infant clothes being held at Target. By shopping for one piece at a time, you will be able to buy better quality clothes at a lower price when the opportunity arises. Keep your eye out for bargains everywhere, both at your local shopping mall and also on internet retail outlets for newborn baby clothing. Most of the online stores have sales going on throughout the year so it pays to do a little due research. While you're buying onesies for your baby, don't forget to buy some mitts as well as warm socks to keep his or her limbs warm.

While babies need constant diaper changes during the course of the day, it need not be a tedious task. Why not look for baby clothing that will make your job easier? There are many brands of outfits that come with panels all over the place that let you get the clothing off quickly, perform a change of diapers and get a fresh set of clothes back on - all in record time. Velcro straps, quick release or snap-lock buttons all help with the process and make it all painless. Whilst buying baby clothing during sale seasons is a good idea, try not to buy garments that are too big and that you hope your baby can wear the following year. Chances are, your child might grow much quicker than you realize and thus you would end up tossing those new clothes out or giving them away.

Clothing for your infant should not only be comfortable but should also be safe. There have been many cases reported in the past whereby babies have choked on ornaments that have become loose or have fallen off the garment. It is advisable to avoid outfits that come with cute bits that are sewn on or hoods that might strangle your child. You will also want to avoid delicate infant clothing that cannot be machine washed as your baby can easily go through three or more clothing changes in a day, and it would make your laundry chores a lot more troublesome.

If your baby is sensitive to non-organically made materials, you might then need to purchase clothes that are made of pure cotton or are hypoallergenic. Otherwise, save your money as these types of garments are going to cost you more than the regular ones and the costs all add up at the end. - 30443
