Why Zhu Zhu Pets Are Good First Small Pet?

By Amy Wallermen

Is it really true the Zhu Zhu pets are so cool that your child will stop asking about when they can get a real hamster and still end up thrilled with the automated one you're thinking of getting them? Most kids have started asking for a pet of their own by the time they are 5 years old. Some start asking a couple years earlier than that. Once the concept of a small pocket pet becomes clearly a good idea to your child, how do you go about designing the appropriate tests of their maturity and ability to care for another living creature?

Almost all children want a pet or two. Yet despite their promises of making a good and responsible pet owner out of themselves, pocket pets are often left neglected when the weather warms up, when the cool new kid in school becomes your child's friend, or any one of a host of distractions that leave the pocket pet sitting alone and waiting. It usually takes a child 4 to 6 weeks to start forgetting how to take good care of a real pet.

As perhaps one of the more innovative toys of our time, Zhu Zhu pets are becoming the parents' choice for an alternative pet. Some parents have purchased the hamster with limited artificial intelligence as a toy for their kids to play with. Others have made it a test of responsibility in order to graduate to the real pet. While a real hamster can't drive its own personal car the similarities between the real version and the automated version are similar enough to give both kids and parents an interesting insight.

The Zhu Zhu pets are more than just a fad. Each individual hamster comes with his very own personality and there is a type of bonding that takes place. Because of the current popularity many parents wonder if the intrigue will wear off in a matter of weeks. Essentially the answer to this question is "no." Why?

The level of engagement that these little automated pocket pets offer your child allows your child to basically grow with his new little pocket pet. Therefore, boredom with the toy is not likely to settle in at all. He is the hamster without the stinky cage. He is the hamster that doesn't get lost and won't be unintentionally treated with cruelty as his dish sits empty for several days, waiting for someone to remember to feed him.

Of course, this is a wonderful invention for any child with significant allergies. Children with severe allergies have historically had to sit on the sidelines when it comes to that rite of passage for most children. The childhood pet does not need to make a child sick.

Of course, there are differences between a Zhu Zhu pet and a real pocket pet. Yet for kids with strong allergy symptoms, it's better that they have this little man made creature to bond with than nothing at all.

While Zhu Zhu pets aren't ready to take over the world with their cute little Zhu Zhu cars, as an alternative solution to real pets this is so far the best yet discovered. With constant fun and the practice of developing live pet skills, you may just see your child blossom into a full blown animal lover with great caretaking skills. - 30443
